4.COMPUTER NETWORKS

Q1. What is Computer Network?
Ans. A Computer Network is a system in which computers are interconnected to share information and resources  ( like printer, scanner, etc), using a shared communication link( or transmission medium).

Q2. How are computers linked with each other in a network?
Ans. The computers on a network may be linked through cables, telephone lines, radio waves, satellites or infrared light beams.

Q3. What are the types of Networking?
Ans. A computer network can be as simple as connecting two computers with each other or as complex as connecting millions of computers with each other. For example, the Internet , based on distances covered, computer networks may be classified into three categories.
1.        LAN (Local Area Network)
2.        MAN(Metropolitan Area Network)
3.        WAN(Wide Area Network)

Q4. What is LAN?
Ans. LAN stands for Local Area Network. It is a data network that is restricted to single geographical location like an office, building, school, college or campus, etc.

Q5. What is MAN?
Ans. MAN stands for Metropolitan  Area Network.  MAN is a large network as compared to LAN. It is spread across a metro city like New Delhi.It is a data network that is restricted to single geographical location like an office, building, school, college or campus, etc.

Q6. What is WAN?
Ans. WAN stands for Wide Area Network. It is  network that spans more than one geographical location, often connecting separeated LANs. It can be used to connect cities, states or even countries.

Q7. What is Multimedia application ?
Ans. A multimedia application is an application which uses a collection of multiple media sources, e.g. text, graphics , images , sound/audio , animation and/or video.

Q8. Explain some advantages for networking a school.
Ans The advantages are”
·         Speed :- Networks provide a very rapid method for sharing and transferring files.
·         Cost :- Networkable version software can be use in different computers.
·         Security :- Files are securely stored and protected in case of a computer crash or damage.
·         Resource sharing:- Sharing resources ( Printers, fax machines, modems, scanners and CD players) is another advantage of school networks.
·         Electronic Mail. Electronic mail or Email on a LAN can enable sstudents to communicate with teachers and peers at their own school.
·         Flexible Access. School networks allow students to access their files from computers throughout the school.

Q9. What is Multimedia?
Ans. Multimedia technology refers to the use of various media like text, voice , images ,video, movies, sounds, etc, in one application . Multimedia is use of many media.
